According to the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "About energy saving and energy efficiency increase" the individual entrepreneurs and legal entities consuming energy resources in volume equivalent 1500 and above tons of the conditional fuel a year and also public institutions and quasi-public sector subjects are obliged to create, implement and organize power management system operation.

The ISO 50001 establishes requirements for the energy management system on the basis of which the organization can develop and implement the energetic policy, realize setting of purposes, tasks and development of measure plans taking into account legislative requirements and the information relating to the aspects connected with considerable energy use.

ISO 50001 is a new basic standard of energy control which, along with the quality ISO 9001 and ecology ISO 14001 standards, will become the new practical tool which allows simultaneously, systematically and continuously to reduce energy consuming and load on environment and to get financial advantages. ISO 50001 can be applied by any organization wishing to provide compliance of their activity to the declared policy in the field of power engineering and wishing to demonstrate it to others.

Employees of the company “ECO-Astana NR” LLP were trained highly qualified in the area of ISO 50001 standard development and implementation, organized by BUREAU VERITAS Certification (“BUREAU VERITAS KAZAKHSTAN” LLP). The course was developed on the basis of practical experience of power management systems implementation at foreign and domestic enterprises of Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Russia.

This direction is included in the priority list of consulting projects which are supported by the Business Advisory Services EBRD (BAS).

The BAS program provides to the enterprises implementing the energy management grants making 25-75% of net value of each consulting project.

By the end of 2012 958 BAS projects with involvement of 308 consultants were carried out in Kazakhstan. In 2013 the BAS Program in Kazakhstan was financed by the Ministry of regional development of the Republic of Kazakhstan within the fourth direction "Enhancing of Enterprise Potential".
